Geography is in everything, in fact many of you may remember in World Geography how I offer an automatic "A" if someone can think of something that has nothing to do with Geography. Geography for me goes beyone just asking where did something occur but is a scientific inquiry into what factors allowed for things to occur where they do. Good luck creating your own definitions and I look forward to reading them.

Geography- "earth writing". Geography is grandiose. It scales (literally) the entire Earth and asks the simplest questions-where and why? Geography is physical. It's mountains. It's climate. It's boundaries. Geography is human, a strange idea. Geography is money. It's conflict. It's diseases and death (which seems pretty human to me). Geographers study the world, the continents, the regions, the countries, the states, the provinces, the cities, the suburbs, the humans here and the humans there. Geography, in the human sense, studies me and hey, it studies you too.

I agree completely with your definition. You made the point clear that geography really does involve every aspect of our lives. I deffinetly agree with everything you put there, but I feel as if you left out many parts. Space is also part of geography too. Geography is also a study in which you learn where and why things happen. There is much more that goes into my two statements to make up geography like black holes are part of space, and as the author talked about hungry people in Kenya that had plenty of arable land is also part of geography.

If you're one that likes questions, geography is your new best friend. Who, what, where, when, and why are the basics of the subject. Its about connecting facts we know to reach an answer that matters to someone, somewhere, for whatever reason. Geography is the study of the earth and how people interact and make sense of it. To me, it is less about mountains and rivers and more about the curiosity we all have about the world that we live in and how it functions. Geography is about figuring out not only locations, but the people in them and realizing the differences and similarities between cultures and places. Its simply a way to connect ourselves to the physical and social world we live in.

Geography pertains to location, area, territory, pattern, and distrubution. All features of Earth apply whether it be human or physical, where they are, why they are there and the importance of the feature. Much of geography deals with what relationship things have with others. Like what group it is associated with or what culture it is. Geography is a way to organize anything and everything of the world.

Geography is more than just land features such as rivers, mountains, and forests. Geography to me is how diseases, culture, and language work around the world. How trade occurs over different areas and how the countries maintain their economy and government. The major questions though that are a major part of Geography is why, where, and who cares. These questions help us understand the true meaning of how many processes that occur around the worl function. Geography also helps you understand how people live and how they interact with each other and their culture. Geography plays a major role in human life.

Geography incorporates everything into its spectrum. Although, it may be incorporated in a way not commonly associated with the subject of the matter. Everything originated somewhere, and therefore it falls into the wide array of Geography. Why should that matter? Because knowing where something originated can explain why it ended up being popular or unpopular, why it ended up across the world or why it didn't go anywhere. Geography has to do with the very simple things like maps and the land features of Earth. But the way humans put ideas, thoughts, words, goods, and other things in a place different than it originated is part of Geography. Where did it end up, where did it start, why did it start, why did it go wherever it went, and is it important are all questions that pertain to Geography just based on the movement of ideas and goods. And finally, Geography is a method, it is a way of analyzing. Whereas History studies why something happened, Geography studies why something happened in that particular spot.

What geography literally translates into is "earth writing." what it means to me is more than just what other people define as "just boundaries, places, land, etc.". That is only partially correct. It also means what is hapening in in the world and why it is happening. Take world hunger for example, if you take the food production of each nation and divide it by the world population, we would have more than enough food to feed everyone a few times over.

However I like to think of geography as the study of How things happen and why they happen so often in the absolute location they do. Geography is the science and study of everything in this world. Physically, Geography maps out countries, gives locations, and shows where land elevates or descends in the Earth. That is all most people think that Geography is. However, it is much more than that. Geography explains why everything in the world is the way that it is today. It explains that based on the areas people live in, they create their own cultures, religions, morals, languages, and ideas. Understanding the geography of the world allows people to help advance in all areas of life by learning from what other regions may be trying or have tried to do. My definition of geography is not only the study of Earth’s physical features like mountains, rivers, and deserts but also the study of human history and the interaction humans had with their environment to make that history happen. Geography asks where?, why there?, and why care? to help us figure out how people’s locations made a difference in how their culture formed while also figuring out how it pertains to or could have an impact on us. Geography also allows us to study other places in the world in a way that can help us to make a “mental map” of them and understand why things that happen there happen.

Although there are physical features associated with the term GEOGRAPHY, there are also human features mixed in to the bundle. Geometry asks the questions: "What is Where?, Why there?, and Who Cares? Along with the 5 themes, geography goes deeper than simply mountains, rivers, and other physical features. For me, geography is the base of common education. If you are unfamiliar with the world around you and all that makes it unique, how can you possibly learn about anything else? Especially when it comes to sciences, that are slowly taking over the education world. Lets say you want to study marine biology, but dont know where any lakes/streams/oceans are? Or go beyond that, where the ones are that have the most diverse forms of life? Back in elementary school, we are taught that Geography is just being able to read a map and find a country, or continent, or river. As we get older, that perspective begins to change and we can finally see what geography really is. To me, the definition of Geography is being able to find items on a map, but the definition of Geography also means being able to ask questions about those places on the map. How come in Germany they all have outdoor supermarkets and buy food fresh and daily, but here in America we don't? Geography is just as much about the people living in an areas as being able to find that area. Being able to ask why the Germans do this, who does this pertain to, and who actually cares are the forgotten aspects of Geography, but is still a huge part of what Geography means.

To me Geography is the platform of everything on Earth. Geography covers it all, the physical aspect of the Earth and how humans adapt with one another in their environments. By taking World Geography last year and Human Geography this year it really makes me see that geography is not all about maps and the land. There is so much more for me to learn!

I defenitely agree with you Sara, geography has a lot to do with how we as humans adapt with one another in our enviroments. It also is how our world is constantly changing and how we change it every day.

The difinition of geography varies among other people. In class we were taught that geography means 'Earth Writing' but that doesn't even come close to summing it up. Geography is more than just maps and landmarks. Geography is made up of location, people, culture, religions and more. For places to be found and have a greater meaning first people had to go to these places and have their cultures influenced on the lands. Geography is more complex than just maps.

To me, geography covers everything on Earth location-wise. Physical features are just the tip of the iceberg, figuratively. It also includes the life of the areas, meaning just about everything: culture, people, traditions, and all other aspects of the land.

The definition of geography to me would be that geography is pretty much everything. There are five themes to geography. They are location, place, region, human environment interaction and the movement of people, goods and ideas. Geography isn't just maps, but also how human life affects the earth.

I think geography is the study of everything around us. Geography incorporates a little bit of everything, geography is not just the study of maps. It also includes people and there culture, traditions, and and all other parts of the land

I totally agree with your definition. You went strait to the point and defined geography. Not only did I enjoy your definition due to its simplicity, I enjoy it because that is exactly what I believe geography is.

I liked your definition the best because it is as simple as it gets. Geography is very complex but your definition covered all the aspects that it is made up by.

I have to agree with Olivia Ness' definition of geography the most. Geography is not just the simple study of maps and physical features on Earth, like she mentioned, but it also has to deal with the movement of people, the location of people, how they interact with the environment, and what region and how it is like there. I like her definition because i feel that people tend to view geography as more of a physical instead of a human feature.

My definition of geography is the study not just of the physical landmarks on earth, but how people interact with them. It also consists of how the environment changes over time by weather, people, and agriculture.

I like Alex Suppinger’s definition of geography because I agree with it and I find it to be close to my definition. That and what I couldn’t figure out how to say was included in it. Geography is like history, only it goes more in depth focusing on where the history happened as well which could also explain why it happened. I too think the movement of ideas and goods is an important part of geography, especially the human aspect of it, because it shows how places have been and are related to each other. I also believe that finding out where and how something originated and where it may or may not have spread can explain why it may or may not have become popular in other sections of the world.
